Gunnedah Presbyterian Church

Our local church, though part of the wider Presbyterian church of Australia is governed by Elders. The word ‘Presbyterian’ is a pastoral term meaning to shepherd and care for. It is used to describe the way our church is governed by responsible and pastorally caring elders.

When we meet priority is given to understanding the word of God, the Bible. In 2Timothy 3:16 and following it is made plain that all Scripture (meaning both the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments) are the out breathing of the breath of God, meaning God’s words, and as such they are useful in all ways to thoroughly equip all believers so that we may know God and follow Him.

The scriptures point to Jesus Christ the Son of God as the one promised thousands of years before, who would rescue His people from sin, and in mercy grant forgiveness and new life in Jesus.

The way we know Jesus is by repenting, turning away from our own selfish and self centered ways, and instead following the Lord Jesus Christ, whom God has made king from all eternity, and has shown this to by His resurrection from death even death on a cross.

We accept the news about Jesus by trusting in Him, by Faith alone, and not by anything we ever have done or might possibly do in the future that would be considered ‘good’, in our terms or someone else’s, but simply on account of what Jesus has done alone.

This is grace. A gift so great, so wonderful, that we never deserved, but is given freely by the kindness of God the Father. Perhaps read Psalm 130 if you are not sure that God could really be kind to you. I’d love to speak about this with you more, if you’d like to. Kind Regards Lyle
